Connecting the Good

Start Where You Live.

WE ARE LIVING IN THE MOST EXCITING TIME IN HISTORY!
Many of us have come to realize that the world does not seem to work anymore.   For many, brokenness, insecurity, and fear rules.

For us, this is a time rich with possibilities, as the old ways of doing things are falling away and a new spirit is emerging within us and throughout our region and world.

WE HAVE FOUND A COMMON GROUND

For the last nine years, we have been connecting people in Northern Nevada who can see a brighter future and have been doing something to make it happen.  Connecting the Good (CTG) has been bringing together people and organizations across the barriers of political ideologies, religious belief, economic class, and special interests to find a common ground in the midst of the chaos and discord.

We freely offer what we have learned through the CTG Networking approach so that you may start a CTG network in your community.   We have developed an easy to use, step by step, training guide. Is This You?

  • Are any of the following important to you: environmental sustainability; local and stable food, water, energy, and economy; health and healing; spirituality; global issues; volunteering; secure retirement years; being of service to others---like helping your neighbor or the homeless?
  • Are you interested in participating in solutions that would elevate society?
  • Are you willing to build a community that is self-reliant?
  • Do you feel that universal principles such as The Golden Rule and virtues such as love, integrity, courage, service, and respect are the foundation for a healthy society?
  • Would you like to be a part of an inspiring group of positive individuals willing to make a commitment with others to build this new society, right here in Reno?

THE COMMON GROUND:  UNIVERSAL PRINCIPLES
Connecting the Good is based on principles, virtues/values, and ideals universally held by people of all cultures throughout human history and applied to the common needs that we all share.  Principles like the Golden Rule and values such as love, integrity, courage, service, and respect are the glue that holds our community and society together, whether you see things from a scientific, religious, or spiritual perspective.

VISION
—Connecting the Good is a bold vision, a universal ideal for the world.  It is a practical, community vision that brings people together to find common ground, and to realize that we are all in this together.  At its core, it is a “spiritual” vision, in that we embody universal principles and virtues in the way we choose to live.

MISSION
—We are creating a better world, starting with ourselves, then connecting with others, and local organizations to build a self-reliant community based on shared values and common needs.

BUILDING A SELF-RELIANT, CONNECTED COMMUNITY

What seems like overwhelming national and global problems can be made manageable—by starting with ourselves and where we live.    We have found the key to being effective--finding the shared positive values and common needs that people have and build community around that.  We then use the CTG networking approach in order to align these common, ordinary, daily actions of individuals, organizations, and networks in our community.

CTG networking focuses the positive energy and the social and material resources, consciously connecting people and organizations with tremendous heart to increase our communities’ capacity to take care of each other--what has been called "re-localization."  In this time of economic uncertainty and natural and man-made disasters, this kind of "intentional" community without walls is urgently needed in each local region.

The foundation to a sustainable society starts within each of us and radiates outward in concrete actions---virtuous behavior towards ourselves and others, generating strong families, tight-knit neighborhoods, strong community networks and local economy, communities, and eventually the world.

Some examples of concrete community networks that have emerged from Connecting the Good:

  • Local food System Network
  • Think Local First Campaign to keep money within the local economy
  • Get to Know Your Neighbor activities
  • Conscious Community Celebrations/Expo

BUILDING A CTG NETWORK in YOUR TOWN
A CTG Network requires no formal organization, staff, dues, formal membership, leaders to follow, or anything expected other than your participation, co-creation, and collective ownership of the process.   The network is a simple and an elegant method to build what we have called Conscious Community.    It is amazing what happens when you bring people together around what we consciously want for ourselves, community, and world together instead of bringing people together around what we are against.  The CTG network attracts those people who are already being of service to their families, neighbors, and their whole community.

The components of the CTG Network reinforce one another to connect people, existing groups and networks around Goodness and Good Works.  Our aim is to connect every person and what we call “network bubbles” in your town to each other over a period of time.  We do this consciously so that we facilitate the sharing of spiritual, emotional, and material resources (volunteers, jobs, funding, organizational collaboration) throughout an entire local region.

Sharing in this way leads to new social innovations--we learn from others that are not in our existing network.

THE LARGER VISIONWEAVING THE WEB OF EARTH
As each community builds up its own capacity and links to other communities to build what both Thomas Jefferson and Mahatma Gandhi called a Commonwealth of Village Communities.
